About museum
The museum was founded in 1909 at the initiative of M. P. Trunov, a physician, local historian and public figure. It consisted of four departments: archaeological, historical, ethnographic and natural history, and its exhibition numbered 1,200 items. In subsequent years the museum hosted exhibitions from the Hermitage, the I. S. Turgenev Museum, the Moscow Historical Museum, the Voronezh Art Museum named after Kramskoi, and others. Today the museum's holdings total about 200,000 items. In 18 halls the museum presents displays and exhibitions that acquaint visitors with the history of the Lipetsk region, painting, iconography, rare books, household goods and the material culture of local residents in various historical periods.
