Batyushkovs' Manor Museum and A.I. Kuprin

About museum

On September 7, 1960, a People's Museum was opened in Danilov in celebration of the 90th anniversary of A. Kuprin's birth. On the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the poet's birth, an appeal was submitted to the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR and the Vologda Regional Executive Committee to convert the museum into a state institution. In 1969 the People's Museum of A.I. Kuprin and the Batyushkovs was reorganized into the Batyushkovs'–Kuprin House. In 1987, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the poet's birth, a new exhibition dedicated to the Batyushkov family was opened. In 1995 a permanent exhibition with relics from the life and work of A. Kuprin was created on the second floor of the house. In addition, the museum conducts thematic and interactive tours, literary-historical quests; in May it hosts the interregional recitation competition "Fatherly Penates", and in winter — New Year and Christmas events for children. The archival collection of the Batyushkovs' and A.I. Kuprin Manor Museum preserves documents of the Batyushkov family and their circle from the 19th to the early 20th century and is held in the collections of the Ustyuzhensky Local History Museum.
