Portomoynya Museum
About museum
\r\nOn October 29, 2009, a unique museum, "Portomoynya", was opened in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan — the only structure of its kind in the republic. It presents a typical 19th-century laundry interior: tubs, female figures rinsing linen, yokes, baskets, buckets with laundry, and other items directly related to washing. Panels tell the history of soapmaking and methods of washing in different historical periods. Special attention is given to information about the visit to the wash-house in August 1941 by the poet M. I. Tsvetaeva. The museification of the site led to the creation of the Marina Tsvetaeva Memorial Complex and became a harmonious completion of a mid-19th-century locally significant architectural monument.
