Nymphosorium Museum
About museum
The Nymphosorium Museum is thematically structured around 'Lefty' — Nikolai Leskov's most frequently quoted work, which managed to capture the national worldview and, in effect, create a new myth.
The starting point in forming the museum (quite literally) was the curious exhibit 'The Tula-Shoed Flea'. It is a miniature made by turner-craftsman Nikolai Aldunin in 2002 inspired by the tale (although in this case a real flea actually underwent the horseshoeing).
The strategy of the Nymphosorium involves studying and interpreting the text and context of 'Lefty' through the means of contemporary culture. There is no classical permanent exhibition here. Each new exhibition invites the visitor to a careful reading of the novella and an impartial consideration of its intent.
The artistic project of the Nymphosorium museum was carried out by the well-known Russian architect Evgeny Ass.
