Fort No. 5 Museum
About museum
Fort No. 5 is a monument of defensive architecture and a military-historical memorial complex, built in 1878 and named after King Frederick William III. The fort is an elongated hexagon along the front, surrounded by a water-filled moat with a depth of 3 to 5 meters. Inside are barracks, an infirmary, a kitchen, ammunition stores, a guardroom and other rooms. The fort was planted with trees for camouflage. On April 8, 1945 it was taken after hours of fighting. The heroism of the Soviet soldiers ensured the victory, and 15 people were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Their names were inscribed on a memorial stone.
