About museum
On April 27, 1989, a Memorial Museum was established at the Astrakhan Vocational School in honor of Hero of the Soviet Union Pavel Mikhailovich Smirnov. It comprises five military-themed exhibitions, containing 510 items in the collection: printed materials, letters, photographs, drawings, weapons and objects from the Great Patriotic War (World War II), as well as soil from the site of Smirnov's death. The museum preserves and continues to add belongings of fallen soldiers, as well as materials about the school's graduates who died in Afghanistan and Chechnya. In 1990 the museum was awarded a diploma at the Museum Society competition in the city of Tambov.
