Museum of History and Culture of Veliky Ustyug
About museum
The Museum of Veliky Ustyug houses collections of items that illustrate the city's history and culture from the 12th to the 20th century. Archaeological finds, weapons, and interior objects testify to the city's early history and to the role of its inhabitants in the formation of the Russian state. The exhibition includes items that demonstrate the contribution of Veliky Ustyug residents to the exploration of Siberia and Russian America, as well as to the development of trade with Western Europe and China. The museum displays authentic objects from the 17th–19th centuries and works by Veliky Ustyug craftsmen: icons, jewelry boxes, finift (Russian enamel), filigree, and silver pieces with niello engraving. The museum's halls offer interactive activities for children and master classes in carving and painting on birch bark.
