Museum and Center of the Khomus of the Peoples of the World
About museum
In Yakutsk there is the unique Museum of the Khomus of the Peoples of the World, which was opened on November 30, 1990. Its collection contains more than 1,762 instruments from 57 peoples of the world, and the total number of exhibits exceeds 9,000. The initiator of the museum's creation was Khomus Uybaan Ivan Alekseev, who donated his collection of jaw harps from around the world to the museum. The museum also acquired instruments by the renowned craftsman I. F. Zakharov and received gifts from world virtuoso Robert Zagretdinov and Japanese jaw-harp scholar Leo Tadagawa. To develop the thematic exhibition plan, K. D. Utkin was appointed director of the museum. The museum holds wooden jaw harps from Thailand, the Philippines, India, Mongolia, Tuva and other instruments, as well as kubyz (jaw harps), souvenirs, books and other exhibits. The Museum of the Khomus of the Peoples of the World is one of the most unique museums in the world.
