About museum
In the 1960s–1970s the idea arose to create a local history museum in the Staroyuryevsky District. At that time searches and the collection of exhibits were organized, in which local amateur local historians participated. On September 7, 1983, in the assembly hall of the district music school, at the initiative of A. V. Lezhnev, N. P. Tsurikova and V. A. Korneev, the first exhibition dedicated to the memory of Alexey Nikolaevich Verstovsky was opened. In 1989 a separate building was constructed for the museum, and in 1997 it was renamed the A. N. Verstovsky Historical and Musical Museum. The museum's collection contains more than 3,000 items, and two permanent exhibitions are located in five halls. The first director of the museum was Nikolai Vasilievich Tolstykh, a teacher and collector of antiquities.
