Museum of Bodily Anomalies in Saint Petersburg
About museum
Several centuries ago, physical anomalies at birth stopped being regarded as omens of the arrival of devilish offspring, evil spirits, and unclean beings. And people have always fought boredom in rather strange ways.
They became curious to observe freaks of all kinds. Neat rows of jars with alcohol‑preserved mutilated animals or children, embryos or parts of the human body attracted more and more thrill‑hungry visitors. Freaks began to be collected and shown to the world in all their monstrous detail. The panopticon became a place where spectators, unable to believe their eyes, stood frozen in horror as they watched what was happening. That was long ago. They say the freak shows disappeared...
BUT THIS IS NOT TRUE. IT HAS RETURNED. Horrifying physiological pathologies of people and animals. The main monstrosities of the human zoo. Shocking antique medical instruments and preparations. Photo zones and installations. Modern, adapted, and unmatched.
