Musa Jalil Apartment Museum
About museum
The Musa Jalil Apartment Museum was established in 1982 in Kazan and is located on the fourth floor of building No. 17 on Gorky Street. The poet lived here from 1940 to 1941 before going to the front. The exhibition was recreated from the memories of the poet's widow, Amina Zalilova, and his contemporaries. It displays the personal belongings of the poet and his family, period items, and the authentic Moabit Notebooks — two handwritten books of poems written by Jalil during his imprisonment. The museum's collections include the prison card recording the poet's execution. In 1957 the Lenin Prize was posthumously awarded to Musa Jalil for the cycle of poems 'The Moabit Notebooks.' Every year on February 15, the Moabit Notebooks are exhibited on the Day of the Original. The museum's exhibition tells about the Kazan period of the poet's life, the wartime years, and his fear of imprisonment.
