N. A. Ostrovsky Memorial House
About museum
The N. Ostrovsky Literary and Memorial Museum presents the unique story of a man who overcame obstacles and left us his works. Nikolai Ostrovsky was blinded and practically unable to walk, but he found the strength and will to create. His novel "How the Steel Was Tempered" was recognized by world literature and remains popular to this day. The N. Ostrovsky house-museum was designed taking into account his severe physical condition. Architect Ya. Kravchuk created the house in a unique Art Deco style that attracts thousands of visitors. Nikolai Ostrovsky lived here for five months and wrote his second novel "Born of the Storm". The museum opened in 1937 and preserves the atmosphere of Ostrovsky's creative life and struggle. Here you can visit the room with the writing desk, the library, the guest space, and the dacha.
