G.D. Krasilnikov Memorial House-Museum
About museum
The house-museum of G.D. Krasilnikov was opened in 1991 in the house built by the writer himself.
The family moved into this house in 1959; G. Krasilnikov was able to build it with the royalties from the publication of the novella 'Vuzh yurt' ('The Old House'). In Alnashi people joked that 'The Old House' helped build a new house.
But he could not live long in the new house: in 1963, at the next conference of Udmurt writers, G.D. Krasilnikov was elected chairman of the Union of Writers of Udmurtia.
G.D. Krasilnikov left for Izhevsk with these words: 'I'll work for a year or two, they will reelect me, and I'll go back to live in Alnashi.' The house in Alnashi was not sold for two years; relatives lived there.
In 1965 the house was sold, and until 1990 the family of the Second Secretary of the RK CPSU, Tokarev, lived in it. In 1978 a decision was made to install a memorial plaque on the house, and Svobody Street, where the house stood, was renamed Krasilnikov Street. At that time there were already public discussions about opening a museum to the writer.
After the house was purchased and allocated for a museum, the question was what kind of museum to open. For several months debates continued on the pages of republican and district newspapers.
Great assistance in organizing the museum was provided by the staff of the URKM (Udmurt Republican Museum of Local Lore); with their support an exhibition was created in the new museum. Valentina Nikolaevna Kirillova was appointed as the museum's research associate, and V.N. Kubasheva as the custodian. The museum became a branch of the Udmurt Republican Museum of Local Lore.
At present the G.D. Krasilnikov Memorial House-Museum is a department of the municipal budgetary cultural institution 'Alnash Historical and Literary Museum of the municipal formation Alnashsky District'.
In addition to guided tours, lessons for schoolchildren about Udmurt writers, seminars, academic conferences, meetings of creative youth, and meetings with interesting people and famous fellow countrymen are held here. Materials on the work of local writers are being collected.
