Memorial and Historical Museum of Volgograd
About museum
The Memorial and Historical Museum is part of the 'Battle of Stalingrad' museum-reserve and is located in the former Repnikov mansion — the famous Tsaritsyn merchants and patrons. The building was constructed in 1903 and is an example of the 'Russian style' and 'brick craftsmanship'. It is a monument of architecture of regional and federal significance. During the Civil War it housed the defense headquarters of the Tsaritsyn Council of Workers', Soldiers', Peasants' and Cossacks' Deputies. The museum was opened on January 3, 1937, and named after I. Stalin. During the Battle of Stalingrad the building was damaged, but it was restored after the war. Today, about 1,000 exhibits are displayed in five exhibition halls of the museum, including photographs and personal belongings of the organizers and participants in the defense of Tsaritsyn, documents, items of White Movement paraphernalia, periodicals of the Russian emigration, weapons, and a model of an armored railcar. At the entrance there are monuments to the residents of Tsaritsyn and to K. Nedorubov, a Full Cavalier of the Order of St. George.
