Lytkarino Historical and Local History Museum
About museum
The Lytkarino Historical and Local History Museum is located in an estate that belonged to the noble family Zotov-Chernyshev for more than 200 years. It was founded in 1702 by Nikita Moiseevich Zotov — the first teacher and mentor of Peter I. In the mid-19th century its mistress became Elizaveta Nikolaevna Zotova, who married one of the first Russian military intelligence officers, a hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, a prominent military and statesman of the Russian Empire, His Serene Highness Prince Alexander Ivanovich Chernyshev. The last owner of the estate was their youngest daughter Maria Chernysheva, after whose surname the estate was named. In 1880 the manor house was rebuilt.
In 1918 the estate received a protection charter, and a museum of noble life operated there. In the late 1920s it was closed, and for a long time various organizations were housed in the manor building.
In 1976 a museum was created in Lytkarino by a group of local history enthusiasts as a people's local history museum intended to tell about the city's history, the lives, everyday life and crafts of local residents.
In 2021, after repair and restoration works, the Main House of the Lytkarino estate was opened, where today guided overview and thematic tours are held for all comers.
A wing — an exhibition hall in the "Lyudskaya" — is also open to visitors, where temporary exhibitions are held.
On the territory of the estate complex the preserved parts of the historic park have been landscaped, a sundial restored, and the only monuments in the world to Alexander Ivanovich Chernyshev and Nikita Moiseevich Zotov have been erected.
