Literary and Memorial House‑Museum of the Writer A. S. Novikov‑Priboy
About museum
In March 1977, on the 100th anniversary of the birth of writer Alexey Silych Novikov‑Priboy (1877–1944), a literary and memorial house‑museum was opened in the village of Matveevskoye in the Sasovsky district. This place was the homeland of the writer’s paternal ancestors, and here Silantiy Filippovich Novikov, after retiring from the army, built a house in 1860. In this house Alexey Silych spent his childhood and youth, and after becoming a well‑known writer he enjoyed returning here with friends for hunting and meetings with fellow villagers. The museum collection of the house‑museum consists of tools, household items of the Novikov family, photographs provided by the writer’s wife and daughter, as well as hunting gear and personal belongings of Alexey Silych.
