About museum
The Olenin National Museum opened in 1974 in the former estate of A. N. Olenin, president of the Academy of Arts and the Imperial Public Library. It was acquired by his wife, Elizaveta Markovna, in 1795 and included two houses, greenhouses, outbuildings and a park on the pond shore. The estate was visited by writers and artists, actors, musicians and sculptors. The exhibition in the main house was opened in 1990 after restoration work. The study, sitting room, gallery, dining room, bedroom and the men's and women's chambers on the second floor have been recreated here. In addition, personal belongings of the Olenin family, household items, pieces from Pushkin's era, portraits of the estate's guests and other materials are on display. In the park the dairy and a smithy by the pond have been restored. The first house of the estate houses an exhibition that includes 10 halls with recreated interiors of a noble house from the first third of the 19th century and an exhibition section.
