Lipetsk Regional Museum of Local Lore
About museum
Lipetsk Regional Museum of Local Lore is the oldest cultural institution of the Central Black Earth region; it is the successor to the museum founded in 1909. The founder and first director was Mikhail Pavlovich Trunov. In 1918 the museum was nationalized and transformed into the Lipetsk People's Museum. It received valuable items from requisitioned estates and city houses: paintings and sculptures, porcelain and bronze objects, and antique furniture. In 1954 it was granted regional status and became a methodological center for scientific, collection documentation and preservation, acquisition, and educational and outreach activities. Since 1991 the museum has been located in the House of Political Enlightenment building. It preserves collections relating to the history of the Lipetsk region from ancient times. The museum's holdings comprise more than 300,000 items, including archaeology, ethnography, numismatics, painting, sculpture, household items, photographs, documents, and rare books. The museum has 17 exhibition and display halls and 13 storage facilities.
