Kyshtym Historical-Revolutionary Museum
About museum
The museum draws attention to the city's history and fosters interest in art and culture. The museum in Kasli was founded in 1897, when members of the International Geological Congress visited the factory museum of mineral specimens and Kasli ornamental casting. By the beginning of the 20th century a rich collection had been assembled, but in 1921 a fire caused significant damage. Until 1979 the museum was free of charge; in 1979 it came under state administration, and in 1999 it became a municipal institution. Today the museum houses 8,099 exhibits and 5,600 scientific and auxiliary items. The museum also features interesting collections of Kasli castings, paintings, samovars, photographs and rare books. Because the museum does not have permanent exhibition spaces, it organizes temporary exhibitions, tours, classes, traveling exhibitions, lessons and lectures, competitions, children's events, city tours, and publishes books. The museum draws attention to the city's history and fosters interest in art and culture.
