Literary and Artistic Museum of A.P. Chekhov's Book 'Sakhalin Island'
About museum
The history of the founding of the A.P. Chekhov Book Museum 'Sakhalin Island' began in the 1980s, when, under the influence of Sakhalin's intelligentsia and the public, the idea of its creation emerged. The museum was opened for the first time in 1995 and moved to a new premises in 2013. It exhibits authentic items from that time, personal belongings of the writer and his family, allowing visitors to gain a complete picture of A.P. Chekhov's life, his work, and his journey across Sakhalin. It also helps explain why the writer committed such an 'ill-considered act', as his contemporaries described it.
