Kurchatov Local History Museum
About museum
Here you can learn about the achievements of the Kursk region in the past and present.
The Kurchatov Local History Museum was founded in March 1998. It is a true people's museum, as all its exhibits were collected by the museum's researchers and local residents. The uniqueness of the Kurchatov Museum lies in the fact that it combines the history of the Kursk region with the construction of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant and the city of atomic workers — Kurchatov. The museum has more than 30,000 exhibits, and the "Archaeology" collection was created after many years of excavations at the "Byki" Stone Age site complex. Also unique are the "Applied Arts" and "Ethnography" collections. The museum houses costumes from the Kursk Governorate and toys from the Kozhlyanskaya tradition. It presents the history of the construction of the nuclear giant and the 50-year history of the satellite city of Kurchatov. The museum conducts research on various historical topics and provides an opportunity to learn about the achievements of the Kursk region in the past and present.
