Krasnoselsky Museum of Jewelry and Folk Applied Arts
About museum
The settlement Krasnoye-na-Volge is known as a traditional center of Russian jewelry art, which began to form as early as the 9th century. Traditions and secrets were passed down from generation to generation, and whole dynasties of craftsmen arose. In the early 19th–20th centuries the main products were inexpensive silver and copper jewelry, small silverware, and stamped icons and crosses. In 1904 the Art and Crafts School of Gold and Silver Work was opened, which became an important factor in the further development of the craft. In 1979 a decision was made to establish the Krasnoselsky Museum, which since 2005 has been a branch of the Kostroma State Historical-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve. Exhibitions presented here include: "History of the Krasnoselsky Craft: Origins and Traditions", "Krasnoselsky Filigree", "In the Vestments of the Icon", "The Golden Fund of the Motherland". The exhibitions feature decorative and applied arts, painting and graphic art.
