Historical and Literary Museum of the City of Pushkin
About museum
In the 1970s, the first local history exhibitions appeared in the town of Pushkin, which in the 1980s became the basis for creating a public local history museum. On July 28, 1987, the museum was accepted by the Leningrad City Executive Committee as a branch of the State Museum of the History of Leningrad. In 1996 the museum became independent and was named the 'Local History Museum of the City of Pushkin'. In 2002 it was reorganized into a St. Petersburg state institution, and in 2011 — into a St. Petersburg state budgetary institution. Currently the museum holds more than 25,000 items, divided into collections: documents, photographs, rare books, graphics, everyday life (ethnography), numismatics, painting and sculpture. The museum also houses one of the most comprehensive collections in Russia of the architect-artist V. N. Maksimov. The museum presents exhibitions, guided tours, poetic and musical salons, and meetings with cultural figures. The museum also conducts research and lectures. The museum's branch is the Moscow Gate with its guardhouses.
