Gunib Local History Museum
About museum
Gunib Local History Museum was opened in 2001 and is a branch of the National Museum of Dagestan named after A. Taho-Godi. It is located in the building of the Gunib garrison church, built in 1862. Its exhibition features more than 1,660 exhibits. A distinctive feature of the museum is the ethnographic section, constructed as a two-story arched building with living rooms on the upper floor and utility rooms on the lower floor. Here you can see antique carved wooden furniture, chased copperware, various ceramics, craftsmen's tools, agricultural implements, carpets, other household items of the highlanders and national costumes. The museum's collection includes authentic artifacts from the Caucasian War, as well as a personal set of surgical instruments donated by the Russian surgeon and scientist Nikolai Pirogov to the self-taught healer Kebedgadzhiyav. The museum also displays a large oak table and two mirrors from palace furniture brought from St. Petersburg in 1867.
