Iske-Kazan State Historical and Natural Museum-Reserve

Located 45 km northeast of modern Kazan, in the villages of Tatarskaya Aisha, Kamaevo and Russky Urmat of Vysokogorsky District of the Republic of Tatarstan, is a complex of unique historical-cultural, archaeological and natural sites belonging to the Iske-Kazan State Museum-Reserve. The museum houses exhibits of museum significance obtained as a result of archaeological excavations of the Kamaevo hillfort and the Russko-Urmat settlement of the 13th–15th centuries. The exhibition halls display items related to agriculture, animal husbandry, trades and crafts, as well as clothing and jewelry belonging to the Tatars of Zakazanya from the late 19th – early 20th century. The museum presents interior ensembles of various social strata of the rural population. The museum was established by a group of scholars from the G. Ibragimov Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Tatarstan Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences under the leadership of Doctor of Historical Sciences R. G. Fakhrutdinov in the 1970s–1980s.
