Church of St. Nicholas in Tolmachi, Moscow
About museum
The first mention of the church dates to 1625. In 1697 the present stone church was built with a side-chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The Chapel of the Intercession of the Mother of God (Pokrov) was erected in 1770. It was rebuilt in 1833–1834, when a new bell tower and a refectory with two side-chapels were consecrated. In 1929 the church was closed, the domes were removed, and the bell tower was dismantled down to its first tier. The church premises were used as storage for the State Tretyakov Gallery.
Services were resumed in 1993 and the church was restored.
A great relic — the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God — is kept in a specially equipped kiot (icon case) of the church.
Once a year, on the feast of the Holy Trinity, Andrei Rublev's icon "Trinity" is brought from the State Tretyakov Gallery to the church.
