Gubden Local History Museum
About museum
Visitors learn about the history and ethnography of Dagestan's oldest settlement, Gubden, which was formed in 1396 after the unification of 23 clan settlements under the leadership of Timur. The museum preserves exhibits from the ethnographic collection, including household utensils, everyday items and tools of the Gubden people. A distinctive piece of this collection is a large grain chest hewn from a single, century-old tree by digging and hollowing, which could hold 500 kg of wheat. Also on display are a flour storage chest, solid-wood troughs for dough and threshing boards. Visitors will see clothing worn by Gubden residents, including a dress made of tartan, wool scarves from the Yakov Labzin factory in Pavlovsky Posad, gilded chuvyaki made of yellow chamois and thin soft leather, and other items. The museum presents information about the life and activities of Omar Aliev, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, as well as about Hero of Russia Abdulmalik Magomedov and the achievements of Gubden residents in international sports.
