Kasimov Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve
About museum
In 1919 a decision was made to organize a museum in Kasimov. A museum sub-department was created under the Uyezd Department of Public Education, and in 1921 it was transformed into the Kasimov Local History Museum. The first director of the museum was Ivan Aleksandrovich Kitaytsev, who laid the foundation of the museum collection. The museum's collections were formed on the basis of valuables from the estates of the princes Golitsyn and Olenin, as well as from closed churches and monasteries. Since then the museum's collection has been continuously supplemented, and today the Kasimov Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve is second in number of exhibits in the Ryazan Region. The museum has a permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of the Kasimov area, presenting materials on the town's history, ethnographic exhibits, archaeological finds and paintings. Traveling exhibitions, interactive events and lectures are also held here. The museum is located in the historic center of the town in the mansion building of the Alyanchikov merchants.
