About museum
The Polenov Museum was established in 1892 by the well-known Russian painter V.D. Polenov and is the first people's museum in a Russian village. It houses various collections, including artworks by V.D. Polenov, I.E. Repin, K. Korovin and others, as well as unique furniture, antiques, a decorative and applied arts (DPI) collection, personal belongings of Polenov and his family members, and a memorial library. The centre of the estate and the entire reserve is the Great House, where the main collections are located. The estate complex includes 21 memorial structures and a park, designed by V.D. Polenov in accordance with the architectural traditions of the late 19th century. The museum's main focus is the development and expansion of the reserve, full memorialization of the historical landscape, and the creation of a unique national park in the north of Tula Oblast. The territory of the museum-reserve includes a slightly altered area of natural and historical-cultural environment, as well as an estate complex of 17 memorial buildings.
