About museum
The art gallery is located in the center of the city of Kerch, at the foot of the Great Mithridates Staircase. The building was constructed in the first half of the 19th century in the classical style. In 1985, on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the Victory over Fascist Germany, an art exhibition titled "Adzhimushkay. 1942" was opened in the building. At the center of the exhibition is a cycle of works by Nikolay Yakovlevich But, an Honored Artist of the RSFSR. It consists of 29 paintings and a number of sketches. In addition, the gallery houses the diorama "Church of John the Baptist" (10th–11th centuries) and a copy of the mosaic from St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, "Christ Pantocrator" (12th century). It was presented by Pope John Paul II to Mikhail Gorbachev. Since 1987, the gallery has hosted temporary art exhibitions representing the art of various countries and peoples.
