About museum
The Ethnographic Department of the Chaykovsky Historical and Art Museum features two museum exhibitions: 'The Homestead of an Old Believer Peasant from the late 18th – early 19th century' and 'A Rural Trading Shop from the late 19th – early 20th century'. The first exhibition displays original items from a Russian izba and an interior from the late 18th century, as well as household items and work tools from the mid-19th – early 20th centuries. On the grounds, an icehouse, wood sheds, a traditional smoke sauna (black bath) and a vegetable garden have been reconstructed. The second exhibition depicts the life of wealthy peasants of the village of Saigatka in the late 19th – early 20th century, including a range of goods that were in demand. The museum objects are monuments of regional and local architectural significance and attract the attention of residents and visitors of the town of Chaykovsky. Work is currently underway to create the architectural and ethnographic complex 'Saigatka' with play areas and market-fair zones.
