Yalta Mountain-Forest Nature Reserve

The Yalta Mountain-Forest Reserve was established in 1974 on the basis of the Yalta forestry enterprise and covers an area of 14,523 hectares. It stretches from Foros in the west to Gurzuf in the east, and the highest point of the reserve is Mount Roka (1,349 m). The reserve is dominated by coniferous and deciduous forests, including oak and beech. It is home to endemic plant species as well as 37 species of mammals, 150 species of birds, 16 species of reptiles, and 4 species of amphibians. The reserve houses a Nature Museum with numerous exhibits and information about the flora and fauna of the Crimean mountains. Within the reserve visitors can see many attractions, including Mount Ai-Petri, the Devil's Staircase, "Shaitan-Merdven" and the Sun Trail. The reserve offers visitors a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with the unique nature of Crimea.
