V.V. Kuybyshev House-Museum
About museum
The establishment of the V.V. Kuybyshev House-Museum is connected with the stay in Kainsk in exile and while awaiting trial of the prominent party and revolutionary figure V.V. Kuybyshev (1907-1909, 1912-1913).
In 1935, after V.V. Kuybyshev's death, the town was renamed Kuybyshev.
On August 9, 1947, based on the decision of the Novosibirsk Regional Executive Committee No. 736 of July 23, 1946, and the decision of the Executive Committee of the Kuybyshev City Council No. 128 of August 12, the V.V. Kuybyshev House-Museum was opened to visitors.
The museum's main task became promoting the life and activities of V.V. Kuybyshev. The museum collections were supplemented with materials about V.V. Kuybyshev; at the same time documents and recollections of the town's old residents were gathered concerning the history of the town of Kainsk up to 1917, the Komsomol, the Civil War, and the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945.
The V.V. Kuybyshev House-Museum is located in the wooden log house of the Movshovich family, where Valerian Kuybyshev rented a room while awaiting trial.
The house was built in 1898 and is a monument of history and culture of regional significance (until 1997 the building was a monument of history and culture of federal significance).
Since 1992 the museum's exhibition has been renewed and is currently supplemented by sections: "Kainsk – city of political exile", "Political repressions in the region in the 1920s–1950s".
