I. P. Pozhalostin House Museum
About museum
In 1992 a house museum of the outstanding Russian artist I. P. Pozhalostin was opened in Solotcha; the house was built to the artist's personal design in 1880. After returning to Ryazan, I. P. Pozhalostin spent much time in Solotcha, where he created his last engravings. In the 1930s–1950s notable writers K. G. Paustovsky, A. P. Gaidar, and R. I. Fraerman worked here, and after the artist's death in 1909 his daughters lived in the house. In the late 1990s the house and the estate grounds were restored. The house-museum's exhibition includes a portrait gallery of statesmen, writers, and clergymen, as well as a memorial exhibition and a literary display describing the influence of Solotcha on the works of K. G. Paustovsky and A. P. Gaidar. The house-museum annually hosts the Pozhalostin Days; it also houses the "Sobesednik" club, the Solotcha amateur choir, and is the starting point of the K. G. Paustovsky Trail.
