Center of Traditional Folk Culture of the Middle Urals
About museum
This State Budgetary Cultural Institution of Sverdlovsk Oblast was established in 2011. The Center was created to preserve and further disseminate folk arts and crafts, as well as traditional crafts. In addition, it focuses on traditional folk culture, namely folklore, customs, folk rites, languages, vernaculars, dialects and historically formed toponyms. The Center of Folk Culture is located in two mansions in Yekaterinburg — old merchant buildings that are monuments of civic architecture from the second half of the 19th century. At No. 10 Chapaeva Street (the M.M. Oshurkov mansion) there is an exhibition hall with craft workshops. Various festive events, festivals and master classes are held here. In the house of merchant E.S. Stepanov, located at 33 Gorky Street, there is the unit responsible for the acquisition and storage of collections, as well as the Center's editorial and publishing department. The mansion itself is a unique monument of wooden architecture.
