About museum

The Taltsy Architectural and Ethnographic Museum is a unique place where visitors can learn about the history, architecture and ethnography of the 17th–20th centuries. The museum features four historical and cultural zones: Russian, Buryat, Evenki and Tofalar. The main attractions are the Spasskaya gateway tower (1667) and the Kazan Church (1679) of the Ilimsky ostrog. It is not only a site for preserving monuments of traditional wooden folk architecture, but also a popular tourist center. Regional, interregional and international events are held here, as well as folk holidays such as Christmas, Maslenitsa, Easter, Trinity and the "Round Dance of Crafts on Irkutsk Land" festival. The museum's collections comprise more than 30,000 items, and it receives over 150,000 visitors a year. Currently the reconstruction of the Ilimsky ostrog is ongoing, as well as the construction of the Traktovaya historical and cultural zone.
