Nikolai Budishevsky's Maple Exhibition

On October 25, the opening of an exhibition of a maple collection assembled by dendrologist Nikolai Budishevsky took place at the V.R. Williams Soil and Agronomy Museum.

In Hall No. 4 of the museum, 36 herbarium sheets were displayed containing 70 specimens of the genus Maple (Acer L.), representing various species and forms of this tree. The exhibition was organized by the A.R. Vargas de Bedemar Forest Museum and the V.R. Williams Soil and Agronomy Museum.

Nikolai Budishevsky's herbaria are prepared using a non-classical method: the dried maple leaves are laminated, which makes it possible to examine the leaf from both sides.

For the opening of the exhibition, it was decided to hold a mini-conference with the participation of the collector and students of the forestry program of the Department of Land Management and Forestry; a postgraduate student from the Department of Botany also took part. The opening remarks were given by the collector.

The presentations were devoted to the genus maple, its fields of application, and taxonomic issues:

"Some introduced maples in Moscow and the Moscow Region";

"The use of maples in urban greening";

"Timber products of maple";

"Non-timber products of maple";

"Maples (Acer L.) — valuable species for ornamental landscaping".

We invite you to visit the maple exhibition during the opening hours of the V.R. Williams Soil and Agronomy Museum, on the first floor in Hall No. 4. The exhibition runs from October 25 to November 22, 2024.
