26 June at the A.I. Herzen House-Museum an anniversary evening was held dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Soviet poet and bard B. Sh. Okudzhava. The literary and musical program was prepared with the support and active participation of the Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Russian Federation.

The director of the Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Russia, Mr. Pak Jung Gon: "I became acquainted with Okudzhava's work more than 25 years ago, when I was in Russia — and since then I have fallen in love with his voice and songs. I immediately realized that Bulat Okudzhava is an extraordinary poet and a true genius, and his songs always take me back to that time of carefree youth." Foreign guests admitted that it was through bard songs that their path to understanding the special depth of the Russian soul began, and that, despite the differences between the two countries, Russia and the Republic of Korea share a similar cultural code in spirit and a common willingness to continue communicating in the language of creativity, music and beautiful poetry.

Dmitry Bak, director of the V.I. Dahl State Museum of the History of the Russian Language (GMIRLI): "Bulat Okudzhava is a whole era, and the A.I. Herzen House-Museum was not chosen by chance for our evening. Okudzhava visited this place many times, met here with friends and held small concerts for those close to him. Culture truly unites different peoples, countries and religions — it serves as a very valuable resource for communication in the challenging modern world. Our museum also always strives to present the great Russian culture to a wide audience from different countries."

Also taking part in the evening were bards Vesta Solyanina and Vadim Egorov, who performed not only songs set to B. Sh. Okudzhava's lyrics but also their own. The event concluded with a joint performance of Okudzhava's timeless piece "Let's Exclaim...".
