The exhibition 'Evacuation' will be the first in a series dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Gatchina's liberation from the Nazi invaders.
The first hall displays the personal belongings of Gatchina residents executed by the occupiers. The second hall is filled with items saved by museum staff and sent to the rear town of Sarapul. It is unlikely that Empress Maria Feodorovna, wife of Paul I, could have imagined that her dressed doll-mannequin named Pandora would become a witness to the horrific events of the twentieth century and return to her native palace from evacuation. Other objects are also presented here — sometimes very simple, but each has a vast and complicated fate.
The first hall of the 'Evacuation' exhibition — the Hall of Memory — will remain unchanged all year, while the second will see changes: in June it will be occupied by other exhibits that witness further wartime events that took place in Gatchina.
The exhibition can be visited until June 9, 2024, with an admission ticket to Gatchina Palace.
