About museum

1966 is considered the founding year of the biological museum, which in 2015 was renamed the Zoological Museum. It was created from a small collection of exhibits (taxidermy of mammals and birds, wet preparations of fish, amphibians and reptiles) assembled under the leadership of Zoya Pavlovna Khonyakina and transferred to the museum by the Department of Zoology of DSU. The taxidermy was made by students. Tamila Khasbulatovna Spasskaya was appointed head of the museum and served in that position for almost 35 years. In 1969 the museum was opened to visitors from schools, technical colleges and universities. Today the DSU Zoological Museum spreads knowledge about the animal world to visitors of all ages: students, schoolchildren and tourists. Temporary exhibitions, conferences, themed programs, film screenings, ecological holidays, lectures and master classes are organized. Currently the museum houses about 800 exhibits, not counting insects, of which there are about 3,000 specimens located in two halls. Each year the museum is visited by between 1,500 and 2,000 people.
