Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve (Suzdal)
About museum
26 kilometers from Vladimir, on the Kamenka River, lies the town of Suzdal. It was the capital of the Rostov-Suzdal principality under Yuri Dolgorukiy and the chief city of the Suzdal principality from the mid-13th century. The princes minted their own coinage, which attests to the town's power and influence. However, in the late 14th century Suzdal submitted to the Grand Prince of Moscow. Despite fires and enemy raids, the town has preserved its unique architectural character. The town ensemble consists of a kremlin with three churches and five monasteries. All these buildings are made of white stone and are harmoniously integrated into the landscape. The Vladimir-Suzdal reserve contains many surviving structures, including the kremlin with the Nativity Cathedral, the Spaso-Euthymius Monastery, the Posad House, the prikaznaya izba of the Pokrov Monastery, and the Museum of Wooden Architecture. All these sites are included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
