Verkhneuralsky Local History Museum
About museum
The museum is located in two historic buildings. In one of them — the former "People's House" — there are permanent exhibitions: the natural history department (more than one hundred mounted specimens of birds, animals and fish of the region), the history of the Civil and the Great Patriotic Wars, an exhibition on the history of the Verkhneuralsk prison, and thematic exhibitions (changed every two months). The second building is a two-storey early 20th-century structure, formerly the shop of merchant Ustinov — an architectural monument. It houses fossil bones of extinct animals, materials on the life of ancient humans, and items of the national culture of the indigenous peoples of the region — Bashkirs and Kazakhs. On the first floor there is an exhibition hall with solo exhibitions by artists and photography exhibitions. A show by the world-renowned sculptor E. Neizvestny was held there. On the second floor there are two halls: one dedicated to the history of the Verkhoyaik Fortress and the Orenburg Cossack Host, the other to the history of the town of Verkhneuralsk, trade and industrial enterprises.
