Sysert Local History Museum
About museum
The museum is housed in the building of the Main Office of the Sysert Mining District, which was built on the initiative of A.F. Turchaninov in 1779, as evidenced by commemorative plaques on the building. July 14, 1969 is considered the founding date of the people's museum. On that day the first guided tour of the museum halls was held, with exhibits presented as gifts from the town's residents. Since 1975 the Sysert museum has been a branch of the museum association of the Sverdlovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore. The museum's current exhibition reflects the history of Sysert — a mining-and-manufacturing center of the Urals — from its foundation to the present day. Among the museum's exhibits are many remarkable items: the cannons of the Sysert ironworks, cast in 1812; musical instruments such as a barrel organ and a harmonium produced in 1903; a mineralogical collection; antique household items, photographs and personal records of residents. The life of Sysert is also conveyed by the museum's regularly changing exhibitions, such as an exhibition of products by LLC "Mramorgaz" (vases, marble tiles, souvenir items) and the enterprise "Uralgidromash", which displays both modern production (hydroturbines) and products manufactured during the war years (bombs, shells, grenades), and an exhibition of products by LLC "Porcelain Sysert", which shows the history of the enterprise from its founding in 1945 to the present (souvenirs, dinner services, fragments of an iconostasis).
