Tver Local History Museum
About museum
Tver Local History Museum is one of the best regional museums in Russia. It was established in 1866 at the initiative of the Tver Provincial Statistical Committee under the leadership of the governor of Tver, P. R. Bagration. The museum's exhibition covers the entire history of the Tver region from the Late Paleolithic to the present day. At the time just before the Revolution of 1917, the museum housed about 18,000 items: 7,000 scrolls, 900 manuscripts, archives of noble families, and 150 early printed books. Currently the museum is undergoing repair and restoration, but exhibitions and interactive children's programs are held in the halls that have already been restored.
