Tosno Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
On March 1, 1991, the Tosno Historical and Local Lore Museum was founded in the Tosno District at the initiative of local residents. In 1998 it was housed in an old mid-19th-century building that belonged to the Smolin family. On May 17, 2018, the museum opened a new permanent exhibition, 'House of the Tsar's Nurse', dedicated to Maria Andreevna Smolina. It features three themed rooms: 'Wet Nurses' Trades', 'The Kitchen in the House of the Tsar's Nurse', and 'The Shop'. Temporary exhibitions are held on the museum's second floor. Currently, the museum's collection consists of more than 6,000 storage units, including documents, photographs, household items, paintings, archaeological and paleontological finds. They illustrate the history of the development of the town of Tosno and the Tosno District, the former yam (postal) settlement of Tosna.
