About museum
The Tambov Regional Museum of Local Lore is one of the oldest in Russia. It was established in 1879 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Tambov Viceroyalty. The museum's collections comprise more than 120,000 items: rare editions and documents from the 17th–18th centuries, works of painting and graphics, decorative and applied arts, weapons, ethnography, archaeology, and scientific collections. Various events are held here: conferences, seminars, museum biennials, festivals, and concerts. Projects are implemented for exhibitions, scientific and educational outreach, and museum-pedagogical activities, supported by grants from the administration of Tambov Oblast, the Russian Humanitarian Science Foundation (RGNF), and the President of the Russian Federation. The museum serves as a scientific and methodological center for the museum network of Tambov Oblast and is a member of the Assembly of Peter's Museums of Russia and the Association of Ethnographic Museums of Russia.
