On December 27, 1983, the bureau of the RK CPSU and the executive committee of the district council of deputies decided to establish the S. A. Zverev Museum of Folk Art. Eduard Dmitrievich Sokolov became the initiator and the first director of the museum. On the 100th anniversary of the folk singer S. A. Zverev — Kyyl Uola (an Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR, an Honored Art Worker of the Yakut ASSR and a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR), the Suntar Museum Complex named after S. A. Zverev — Kyyl Uola was created; it included the Museum of Folk Art, the Olonkho Museum, the Folklore Museum in the village of Elgya, and the memorial museum-estate of S. A. Zverev in the village of Ygyatta. In 2020 the museum complex was awarded the title 'Best Museum among Rural Cultural Institutions', and the museum director A. A. Fedorova was awarded for best work in the category 'Best Museum Worker'. The museum's permanent exhibition is called 'The Spirit of Our Ancestors'. Today the complex holds 5,945 items in the main collection and 5,886 items in the scientific and auxiliary collection.
