Shchigry Local History Museum

On May 14, 1980, the Shchigry Local History Museum was opened in the town of Shchigry. In 1990 it received the title "People's", and in 2006 it became a branch of OBUK "Kursk Regional Local History Museum". The museum is located in a building constructed in 1907 by Nikolai Lvovich Markov. The exhibition presents the history of the Shchigry land from the second half of the 17th century to the present day. Famous people lived and worked on this land: writers I. S. Turgenev, E. L. Markov, A. P. Gaidar; the poet A. A. Fet; the artist V. G. Shvarts; and the scientists I. I. Ivanov, D. I. Zhuravsky, S. P. Nepobedimy. The Shchigry Local History Museum is visited by more than 11,500 people annually. It allows visitors to learn about the history and culture of the Shchigry land and to trace its development from the distant past to the present.
