Shenkursky District Local History Museum
About museum
In 1892 a two-story brick building was constructed, which became a monument of town planning and architecture and serves as the site of the museum. It houses more than 26,000 items, of which over 20,000 belong to the main collection. The museum has 9 halls with exhibitions dedicated to the history of Shenkursk, as well as to the crafts and occupations of the district's peasants. In 2020, a new natural-history exhibition was opened for the museum's 100th anniversary. Scientific and educational events are also held here: interregional scientific and practical conferences take place every 5 years; the district Orthodox local-history Varlaamov Readings are held every 2 years; and a textile and traditional crafts festival, "Evdokievskie Days", is held every 2 years.
