Shchekino Art and Local History Museum
About museum
Shchekino Art and Local History Museum was founded in 1968 by Arkady Matveyevich Frolov, the director of School No. 13. It contains exhibits related to the region's history in the Soviet period: documents, awards of revolution participants, works of fine and decorative-applied art by Shchekino craftsmen and artists, as well as collections of ethnography, archaeology, ornithology and numismatics. The museum has halls dedicated to the life and work of Igor Talkov, to the travelers of the Shchekino region Boris Kremer and Dorian Romanov, and to Hero of Russia cosmonaut Sergey Zaletin. The museum's exhibitions on regional history, the origins of mining in the Shchekino district, ecology and nature, and the Great Patriotic War are equipped with dioramas, three-dimensional models, relief maps and light dioramas. In 2007 the museum won the "Changing Museum in a Changing World" competition for the project "The Heritage of a Belgian Great-Grandfather".
